MAN'S VIEW"British Scientist Puts Odds for Apocalypse at 50-50" This is the title of an article at Yahoo News. Here are some observations from the article: According to Martin Rees, Britain's honorary astronomer royal:

It sounds like he cheated and read The Revelation in the Bible, right?
Rees lists as mankind's biggest threats: nuclear terrorism, deadly engineered viruses, rogue machines and genetic engineering that could alter human character. All of those could result from innocent error or the action of a single malevolent individual.
By 2020, an instance of bioterror or bioerror will have killed a million people, Rees contends.
"A hundred years ago, the nuclear threat wasn't even predicted ... but that threat still hasn't gone away," he said.
The arms race, after all, was fueled by science....
BIOTECHNOLOGY COULD CHANGE HUMAN NATURE
"For the first time ever, human nature itself isn't fixed. Biotech drugs and genetic engineering are empowering individuals more than ever before," Rees said.
With rapidly advancing DNA technology, "even a single person could cause a disaster,"....
Thousands of people have the ability to engineer viruses and bacteria to cause deadly plagues. Even if one such "weirdo" didn't kill many people, that type of biological terrorism would profoundly change daily life, the scientist warned.
Nanotechnology are also a potent threat, he said.
If the field advances far enough, rogue self-replicating nanotechnology machines -- feeding on organic material and spreading like pollen -- could devastate a continent within a few days, Rees said.
Self-replicating machines? I believe this fellow is getting a bit over the edge on this one. Evolutionary scientists often see the inventive ability of humans as godlike. This is because they buy into the notion that man can do anything he wishes, given chance and necessity. The fact that man is still trying to defy gravity without obeying the God ordained law, is clear proof that man bumps his head against the ceiling, and God laughs. Nevertheless; there is a real danger in some of Rees' observations.
Rees does not discount the possibility of disaster caused by scientific experiments involving particle accelerators. "Perhaps a back hole could form, and then suck in everything around it," he cautions.
Art bell would love that one :-)
So what's to be done?
The British scientist calls for better regulation and inspection of sensitive data and experiments.
Now, two solutions are offered. Both are pipe dreams by a do-gooder who has no oughts and shoulds from God, only his good intentions:
"We need to keep track of those who have potentially lethal knowledge," Rees said.
Can you imagine a world where thought police are entering the minds of intelligent people to detect evil motives? Also, consider the day when those with powerful technologies and evil potentials must be "classified" and kept under surveillance around the clock. This is nutty as a fruit cake.
He also suggested better efforts to "reduce the number of people who feel excluded or otherwise motivated to cause harm."
Ah, yes, the old saw about making people content so that they will not sin. This is the most crass and insane illusion of modern science. This notion says that the world can become a better place by simply filling everyone's belly with food and giving people all they want. This notion also lays the groundwork for laying blame. If the peace of the world fails to work out, it is because YOU did not make a malcontent happy by sharing your good things with him. There is no salvation in science.
"I am the captain of my soul, the master of my fate," says the God hating humanist. But, the poor scientist sees the end of this plan, and he thinks he sees the "captain" and the "master" blowing up Paradise. No wonder Rees is a bit pessimistic.

Indeed, God will blow up the evolutionist's Paradise, but God intends to make a new one. Since these brimming intellectuals don't believe there is a God who did create the earth up front, and who can create a new earth this afternoon before tea time, these poor fools have no hope.
Revelation
21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned

Revelation
chapter 22 1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the
street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which
bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves
of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more
curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants
shall serve him:
The poor scientists and evolutionists have no future which is in the hands of an Almighty. They have no hope of a cleansing of evil. They can only try to control evil and appease the wicked.
There is coming a glorious day when the dirty, fallen, and depraved world will be burned up and cleansed by fire. Afterward, God promises to start over. The result will be something as good, or even more glorious, than what Adam received from God. Thus, we use this old world up. It is subject to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which says, everything is running down from higher to lower levels of energy and existence. Use it up. When God sees the time is right, he will judge the wicked, and unbelieving, the evolutionist prigs, and the damnable. God will pitch them into hell. And then, God will make a new heaven and earth for his children from all the ages. God is making mansions for the believer in Jesus. God is building a heavenly Jerusalem.
Enjoy the earth, and ignore these clones of Art Bell in the universities of the world. This world will not end until God ends it, and God will not be soliciting the help of advice of the PhDs or Cambridge or MIT.
The end is indeed near. I say, Praise God! Even so, come Lord Jesus.
