MacArthur clearly does not want to let you see his teaching on the subject. I cannot blame him for hiding it. It has to be a very troubling issue to his conscience, at least if he is truly born again. But, I know of no evidence that he has retracted his teaching, and I know 100% that I found his teaching at Grace To You in the past. It may be in his book publication commentary of the Bible. If you have that, go to 1 Samuel, and check it out for yourself.

We see here that the logic is clear from the above teaching. Here is the dilemma of John MacArthur: The devil spoke, under inspiration of Satan, and everything the devil prophesied came true, OR, the devil spoke, under inspiration of God, and everything the devil prophesied came true. THINK, DEAR READER. Do you like either choice?
The other interesting observation in the above heresy of MacArthur is that it shows how he is a slave of Calvinism. He undoubtedly sees Saul as going to hell judged of God for his rebellion. He cannot let Saul remain an Old Testament saint-- he must be seen as never saved in the first place. This is because Talbot Seminary, where John MacArthur was brain washed, teaches that a saint cannot be possessed with a devil. These slop hog seminaries plumb the depths of the Greek, but they have no stomach for prepositions. Possessed "with" a devil, unlike possessed "of" a devil, does not speak of the damned being owned by devils. It speaks of the saint having devils like my dog has fleas. It is still my dog (Saul was still God's saint), though I may do some rather unpleasant things to Fido to get rid of the fleas, and I may not hug him real tight until the fleas are gone. THINK
So, Saul and the witch and Samuel and devils in 1 Samuel 28 have been a monster to theologians for many years. It is too bad the jerks just don't learn to take the Word for exactly what it says.

Who saw WHOM?

Not ANY demon! That is why she panicked and accused Saul of tricking her. Saul had previously killed all the witches in Israel, and she thought he had trapped her in the event we are considering.
John MacArthur must think the woman saw a devil, but the Holy Ghost got mixed up and thought the devil was Samuel. Hmmmmmmm

MacArthur forgot the first rule on Bible interpretation given him at Talbot Seminary by Dr. Fineburg, his instructor. It goes like this, "If the plain sense makes good sense, do not look for any other sense."

The reference there is to these verses spoken to Saul earlier...

SO, if "THY WORD IS TRUTH," as the Lord Jesus Christ said it is, then these words, "as he spake by me".....
.....HAD TO HAVE BEEN SPOKEN BY SAMUEL, NOT A DEMON, or Jesus Christ is a liar, and you can THROW AWAY your King James Bible, go forth and be LEWD and LASCIVIOUS!

1 Samuel 28:19 Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
This prophecy came 100% true the very next day, as promised!
Do DEMONS prophecy 100% accurately, CAN THEY? Of course not,
THAT is the test of the prophet, 100% accuracy!
Thus it HAD to be SAMUEL who prophesied in that verse!

If John MacArthur truly believes that the revelation in the above text was given, under inspiration, through a devil, MacArthur is possessed OF devils himself and promoting their kingdom. How did he come to this point? Possibly, he was never born again but simply followed in his father Jack MacArthur's foot steps as a career choice. Otherwise, if he is born again, he may very well have the same devil supervising him that was sent to torment King Saul.
Understand what John MacArthur is really saying:
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Thus, MacArthur has added a hell bound devil to the heritage Peter spoke of. That devil of MacArthur's was holy and inspired by the Holy Ghost. Mac is telling us that the revelators are Moses, David, Solomon, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and a nameless devil on his way to the Lake of Fire. The day God is so short of revelators that he has to call on the help from a devil is the day we have no God. Greek mythology may work this way, but Jehovah God has made it very clear that he does NOT give the Word through Satan:
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
There is NO truth in Satan or his imps.
1 Kings 22:22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
God let this devil to do the work God needed done-- LIE! Not tell the truth. That is the only use a devil could possibly have to God, that is, to lie to some rebel God wants to destroy.

Satan and his devils lie by nature. God uses revelators to bring the Word to men who are, by nature, changed and under authority of God. MacArthur makes a monumental fuss over the believer being changed and losing his old nature. Well, you effete snob, you cannot have it both ways, sir. If God wants the believer totally changed before he uses him, then how is it that God would suspend the absolute demands of his holiness and let an unregenerate lying devil speak for him?
MacArthur suffers from a malady common to seminary graduates-- they like to put a trade mark on truth which gives them a copyright to some nuance of interpretation. Thus, they will be cited in the tin horn snob club as the "scholar" who teaches such and such. Well, Mac has gone too far this time. He should find some novel typology for the nops in the temple or something, but here he is saying God uses liars to deliver the Truth, indeed, lying devils. That is blasphemy.
Luke 4:41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
How is it that God the Father wanted to hear a devil give revelation to Saul, but Jesus did not want to hear a devil speak? In this case, the devils were speaking the truth, but Jesus did not want Satan to announce his Messiahship. It must be that Jehovah is amused by Satan's blather, and Jesus hates to listen to Satan. This sounds like the Mormon notion that Jesus is the brother of Satan, and God is sort of the jolly old patriarch sitting back letting the two boys battle it out for top place.
The philosophical and logical aspect of this is horrendous. You see, history tells us that Satan was very correct to believe that he could disrupt God's plan with lies. A lie is as powerful as the truth if the listener will believe it and act upon it. Satan, in the serpent in the Garden of Eden, lied to Eve, and she believed him and acted upon that lie. Were the results proof that lies have power? Hey, are we all sinners and lost and damned to hell because Eve and Adam believed the lie? That is a no brainer. Hitler told Goerbels and Himmler that they would lie and lie big, and the German people would believe the lie. Did they, and did they act upon that lie, AND, were the consequences proof that lies have power?
We said Satan was partially correct in thinking he could defeat God with lies. He could certainly make trouble for God. Well, now we must consider the consequences of this evil plan as it affected the Godhead. God had lost the fellowship he had with Adam and Eve. There were, dispensationally speaking, several eras in which he God brought man close and kept in touch. But the relationship he had with Adam, walking in the cool of the evening, had to be BOUGHT back, and the only price that could cancel the work of Satan and his lie was the shed Blood of Jesus Christ.
THE LIE in the Garden ended with one member of the Godhead hanging between heaven and earth crying out to the Father, "WHY?" "Why has thou forsaken me?" Can you recall in the Bible anywhere else that God said "WHY" because he did not know the answer? Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God (damn anyone who denies that) did not know why God the Father had looked away from him. Never in eternity past had that happened before. The answer to that "WHY" was you and me and the LIE. Jesus was said to have lead captivity captive, but ONLY after he paid the supreme price. Only after he went to hell and secured the keys to that place. He then could take captive the victims of the LIE. Lies have power, lies kill, and liars are the ultimate danger in this universe.
So, since there is a being in the universe, along with his fallen devilish agents, who has dedicated himself to lie all the time, and since he has said clearly that he would use lies to sit in the seat of God himself, and since many people have believed the lies of Satan, and since it cost God his precious Son's life to break the power of devilish lies, tell me this.....
Does it seem reasonable to you that God would ask his child, a king of Israel and a son of Abraham, to receive the truth from a devil?
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
It seems to me that there is virtually NO confusion greater than having to listen to truth from a spirit totally dedicated to lie and to destroy the truth, the listener, and God himself. To claim that God invented such confusion is insane logic.
Is there an alternative that is reasonable? I think so. I realize this is very very deep, and I understand if you scholars of mongrel Christendom find this puerile and parochial, but it might just be that God permitted Samuel to come away from the bosom of Abraham and deliver the message to Saul.
Shock and awe, terrifying thought, pass the aspirin, what a heavy complicated discussion, right Dr. Dull?
Ah, but then the demented Calvinist on Roscoe Blvd has to claim, that is, if Samuel was a devil, that Saul went to the "bosom of Abraham" with Samuel and found himself in hell. Samuel said, 1 Samuel 28:19, Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: Do you see the problem? John MacArthur is terrified that king Saul will turn up in heaven when we all get there and say, "I told you so." Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, you silly child.
I AM REMINDED OF A GREAT HYMN OF DEMENTED CALVINISTS
Let me say this.... I am more convinced I will see King Saul in heaven when I get there than that I will see the murderer John Calvin or prevaricator John MacArthur there.
Now, with my lowly BA, and my juvenile simplistic faith in the Word of God, I shall blast the doctor into a cocked hat by simply applying the most basic human reasoning.

IF the speaker is a devil, and IF this is truth and must be fulfilled 100% (as MacArthur claims), and IF Saul went to hell and death where the alleged devil was (according to Dr. Johnny), then Jonathan went to hell with him. There were no devils in the bosom of Abraham. If Jonathan went to hell, we are all damned and lost. Hey, Dr. Johnny baby, speak up, I cannot hear you mumbling over in the corner with brothers Keil and Delitzsch.
If you sit at the feet of John MacArthur and drink deeply of his blather, bluster, and bull, you may well be on your way to hell. Only a rebel fool would consider such teachings as truth and food for the soul. I believe John MacArthur is making a devil speak revelation because MacArthur trashes the revelation of God every Sunday morning by talking about a "better rendering" and an "unfortunate translation" and "the earliest manuscripts" and "more reliable manuscripts" and "most scholar agree that" blah blah blah blah.
A modern Bible mutilator must keep trashing and ripping at the Word of God to keep the faithful in awe of his lordship over Truth. To give the listener complete confidence in the Word of God as literal truth in our hands is suicide to the modern scholar. The noble Berean will soon catch the Masters, Talbot, Dallas jabberwocky butchering the Truth.
In his teaching, MacArthur uses Gnostic paganized Bibles (the NIV and the NASB) one of which is produced by the world's premier porn publisher, Rupert Murdock, and John knows it is hog slop. So, if devils can give revelation, surely perverted sodomite hugging bibles can also be used by God. Surely the Calvinist egg sucking dog who vomits on the saint's shoe will be able to tell the truth in spite of himself. Surely the preacher can dip his little tin cup into the Gnostic cesspool of Origin and the Roman Whore, and up will come the pure Word of God. The vomit is pure, the vomit is true, and the vomit is gold plated. To hell with Jonathan.
Folks, the war is for the Word of God-- this is the last war, as it was the first war. Nothing has changed. The LIE is powerful, and the TRUTH is powerful, but YOU must decide which to believe.

Here is a quote by MacArthur to the question of whether or not King Saul went to Heaven or Hell. John has to give this answer because he needs Saul to be unsaved from the beginning because a true believer, in any dispensation, cannot lose his salvation. To do so would trash one of the cardinal teachings of John Calvin who is MacArthur's theological touch stones.
QUESTION: John, in 1 Samuel 28 when Saul raised Samuel from the dead, and Saul had been disobedient and gone away from the Lord and the Spirit had departed him, but yet Samuel said that tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Do you think that Saul was saved?
JOHN: Do I think, first of all, that Samuel was Samuel, right? What do you think, Dick? Samuel was Samuel? I think so, too. You think Saul was saved? I agree, that’s a tough one. See, the – the point there is that could only be speaking of the veiled aspect of death in the Old Testament. In other words, “You’ll be with me” in the sense that you’re going to be dead like I’m dead. I mean it’s not necessary to assume from that that Saul was – was a redeemed man.
John's trick to separate physical death from spiritual death, the basis for being lost and going to hell, is a cheap trick. Samuel was in the bosom of Abraham. He was not a physical person anymore. He was a spirit. So, Samuel meant Saul would be with him spiritually. John makes a big point in his preaching of using sound plain reasoning, but here, he uses smoke and mirrors to find a way to put Saul in hell.
To allow Saul to go to the bosom of Abraham would mean that God did not damn him to hell for falling from a close walk with Jehovah God. This would be a parallel concept of a Christian falling away and leaving the Lordship of Christ. John absolutely does not allow that anyone can be truly born again and not submit 100% to the Lordship of Christ. We know the Bible does not teach that. When we abandon the Lordship of Christ we certainly can be chastened, and God may take us out of this life to stop our rebellion. But no born again Christian can sin enough to be sent to Hell.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.I highlighted some of John's answer in green. This response seems to show that John changed his teaching on whether or not Samuel was Samuel or a devil. If so, then we must give him a pass on that one. But, he needs to clearly retract his first teaching that Samuel was a devil. I know John knows how to retract things he later finds were in error because I have heard him do it. He needs to do a better job of cleaning up the mess he made.
