No story of a hymn can be more sweet and precious than its basis in scripture. Charles Wesley shows his profound knowledge of scripture in the Biblical refernces that flowed out through his hymns. Here is the the scriptural story behind one his great hymns. |
Arise, my soul, arise;
shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice
in my behalf appears:
Before the throne my surety stands,

A study in a hymn well based in literal use of the Word of God
Arise, my soul, arise,

They pour effectual prayers,

They strongly plead for me:

Now I am reconciled;

God's pardoning voice I hear;
